The Importance of Stretching

One of the most vital aspects of our day-to-day health and physical fitness may not be what most people would expect. It has nothing to do with diet, weight lifting or extensive cardio. The activity we are referring to is stretching your muscles, and it should be a part of everybody’s daily routine. Especially for professionals, like truck drivers, who spend their days and nights in seated positions, having an adequate and frequent stretching practice is the key to a healthy lifestyle (and to getting rid of any aches and pains once and for all).

The many benefits of stretching include:

  • Better posture
  • Stress reduction
  • Improved circulation
  • Increased flexibility
  • Enhanced coordination
  • Pain relief
  • Increased energy
  • A better sense of well-being

Lack of stretching can lead to build-up of acids in your muscles that can cause pain and stiffness.

There are plenty of easy stretches that professional truck drivers can implement in their every day routines. Many don’t even require leaving your cab. So, when time allows, pull over in a safe location and stretch! Be sure to hold each stretch for at least 30 seconds, and listen to your body – if something hurts, don’t do it!
