5 Tips to Drive Safely this 4th of July from America's Road Team

From the American Trucking Associations press release, “Elite Drivers Urge Motorists to be Safe Over the Independence Day Holiday”

This 4th of July, AAA estimates that 40.8 million Americans will take to the roads. Whether you are behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer or the family sedan this 4th of July, here are some tips to ensure your holiday travels are safe and happy:

1. Prepare before you leave – Check your tire pressure, wipers and fluids. Simple maintenance can prevent many of the problems that strand motorists on the side of the road before you leave your home.

2. Plan your trip – Know where you are going and be prepared to exit. Indecisive driving is a major cause of traffic problems.

3. Slow Down – Chances of a crash nearly triples when driving faster than surrounding traffic.

4. Abide by Traffic Rules – Follow traffic signs and signals – paying special attention to work zones.

5. Pay Attention – Distracted driving is a leading cause of crashes. Looking away for even two seconds doubles the chances of an accident. Turn cell phones and PDAs off.
